OVERVIEW
The 2026 Carolinas Classic Scholastic is a 5 round K-8 tournament held alongside the Carolinas Classic. It is open to all players aged 13 or younger with a rating under 800 (or unrated).

ELIGIBILITY

K-8 players only (age 13 and under)

Players must be unrated or rated under 800 based on the June US Chess rating supplement - not live ratings.
TIME CONTROL
G/20, inc/10
Each player begins with 20 minutes and receives a 10 second increment per move.
PRIZES
Trophies to top 10, based on US Chess standard tiebreaks

No spectators. Parents and spectators are not allowed in the playing area or nearby hallways or restrooms.

Scholastic: $10 transaction fee until June 10.

50% refunds after June 10 until 1 hour before round 1.

Up to 2 optional half-point byes, request before round 1.

All byes requested during tournament are zero points.

Boards, sets, clocks provided (must use our equipment).

In all sections, White's clock will be started at the start of the round, even if players are not present.

June 2025 US Chess (OTB) ratings used for pairings and eligibility.
