OVERVIEW
The 2026 North Carolina Open Scholastic is a 5-round K-8 tournament held alongside the NC Openand US Masters. It is open to K-8 players (age 13 or younger) with a rating under 800 or unrated.

Online registration strongly recommended.

Scholastic registration closes 1 hour before round 1 start time.

On-site registration: Friday 8:30-8:45am.

On-site check-in is not necessary for players who registered online
ELIGIBILITY

K-8 players only (age 13 and under)

Players must be unrated or rated under 800 based on the November 2026 US Chess rating supplement, not live ratings.

Players who do not meet the requirements should enter the NC Open.

5 rounds – no eliminations

Byes (request to skip certain rounds):

Up to 2 optional half-point byes which must be requested at least 90 minutes before round one begins.

All byes requested after the start of round one are zero-point byes.

No Spectators. Parents and spectators are not permitted in the playing area and nearby hallways and restrooms.

Withdrawals/Refunds:

$5 transaction fee for cancellations until November 25.

50% refunds after November 25 until 1 hour before round 1

All withdrawals during the event must be submitted at least 1 hour before the round.

Ratings Used for Pairings and Prizes:
-
For most players, November 2026 US Chess supplement ratings are used.

For players who would otherwise be unrated, their live US Chess tournament history rating will be used.
